Overmountain Men Call to Arms Celebration,
Blacksburg - Sept. 22

and celebrates the beginning of the 1780 military campaign leading to
the battle of Kings Mountain. 200 VA patriot militia
joined fellow Americans from TN, NC & SC to track down and defeat a
British force under Major Patrick Ferguson. The battle is considered one
of the key turning points in the American Revolution. The annual event
takes place on the original muster ground in Abingdon, Virginia and
includes military demonstrations, fife and drum music, craftspeople,
storytelling, and special ceremonies.
